Baptism
Why do we baptize new believers?
We baptize in order to obey Christ’s command.
Baptism is like a drama that Jesus gave us to act out in a public setting. The water represents the tomb in which Jesus was buried after he died on the cross. Going in the water represents death. Coming out of the water represents new life. When the new believer is baptized, they are identifying themselves with the Lord Jesus Christ.
By acting out the baptism, they are expressing to all who are watching that they now identify themselves with Jesus. They identifying themselves with His death, with His burial, and His resurrection. While the believe goes under the water and then immediately comes back out, the pastor will often say, “Buried with by baptism. Raise up with Him to a newness of life”
